What to Expect When You’re Installing New GuttersDecember 9th, 2017 | by Mark Tulloch | in Gutter Installaton | 0
At a certain point, it becomes necessary to install new rain gutters. Rain gutters in Canada need replacing just like anywhere else, and there is a process for preparing for new steel rain gutters.
Follow these tips to make sure you are ready for your new gutter systems:
Plan ahead. Map out your rain gutter system replacement plan in advance to minimize surprises. Ideally pick a weekend with clear weather projected.
Measure twice. The old adage applies to rain gutter installation also. Measure the pitch of your gutter system if you are going to install it yourself to ensure they are optimally positioned. Also, measure the length of rain gutters required, leaving a sufficient margin for error.
Consider bringing in professionals. If your old gutters are heavy, this might be a good safety precaution for taking them down. Beyond taking down the old gutters, they can be helpful for a new installation as it can be a frustrating project if you don’t have a lot of experience replacing gutters. At minimum, bring in a second person to help you with the installation for safety sake.
Cut once - this is why you measure twice! Cut and mount your new gutter lengths, connecting the downspouts and gutter sections to form your new rain gutters system.
Test the gutters once they have been installed to make sure everything has been done according to specifications. Run water through them to simulate rainfall so that any errors can be discovered in a controlled situation.
These tips should have you well on your way to this crucial home improvement project. Installing new rain gutters is a necessary part of home ownership. Eventually everything requires replacement and rain gutters are no exception. Rain gutters in Canada are important and steel rain gutters will help keep your roofline free of rain and debris.
